His home parish is Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Diocese of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

When asked how St. Katharine Drexel speaks to God’s call to serve the church and His people Mahoney replied, “By living out St. Katharine Drexel’s way of life and encompassing how to serve God and His people joyously, one can truly see how giving of ourselves while here on Earth can lead to life everlasting, and sainthood.”

At the University of Notre Dame, Mahoney is active in community service through Bengal Bouts, a fundraiser for the Holy Cross  missions in Bangladesh that raised more than $100,000 for education, healthcare and other essential needs for children and families. Through Notre Dame Community Outreach, he serves as a youth soccer coach and referee. As a volunteer for St. Andre Welcome Weekend, he helped plan, coordinate and create a welcoming move-in experience for first-year students. Mahoney is a member of the Fisher Regatta Committee which supports an annual fundraiser for St. Adalbert’s School in South Bend, raising over $25,000 each year to improve the school environment. He continues to serve in his home parish of Sacred Heart of Jesus in Lewisburg, PA. Each Christmas he assists with collecting and distributing donations for the local Birthright Chapter serving babies in need by providing nutrition, clothing and other essential items.

This year, Catholic Scouting America awarded fifteen service scholarships totaling $40,000 to Catholic Scouts for outstanding service and leadership. In addition to this scholarship, fourteen were awarded to graduating seniors in high school. Since 2005, Catholic Scouting America has awarded $348,000 in scholarships to 146 Scouts nationwide.
